Gilliana Hope

.

Hi y’all! My name is Gilliana Hope and I am currently serving as the Treasurer for the LU Dems! I am double majoring in Music and a major I designed in Creativity, Culture, and Social Change with a minor in Gender Studies. My goal is to work within the nonprofit sector, blending my love of artistry with social activism! I am originally from Houston, Texas, however I vote in Wisconsin because I believe my voice and vote can make more of an impact here. I got involved in our Democrats chapter because I want to make a difference in communities of all levels!

My interest in political activism stems from my background in social justice advocacy and organizing, where I find creativity and change often intersecting in my work. I got my start in middle school helping run annual donation drives for the Houston Area Women’s Center and in high school actively sought out leadership opportunities by running music/activism programs for BBYO regionally and internationally. During my gap-time, I moved more directly into activism spaces through working with grassroots organizations like an activism-based app Asmbl and Supermajority, an organization dedicated to electing marginalized and female candidates. Currently, she is interning for Kelly Peterson (State Senate District 2).

Outside of Student Democrats, I am a singer-songwriter, co-president of our student-based recording studio (SOL-WLFM Studios), enjoy freelance writing, and do research in the fields of Psychology and Gender Studies. I love actively working in the Fox Cities community and you can likely catch me at an open mic or find me coaching and programming for Volume Up & Turn It Up Rock Camp!
